Setup the network
1. Select Network setup from the Settings menu.
2. Select the network configuration settings. The network configuration
settings are specific to each individual facility.
Option Description
Edit name Edits the name for the Modbus module
Modbus
address
Selection of the Modbus address
Baud rate The Baud rate—Rate (bits per second) at which the data is
transmitted across the network. All devices on a network must
be set to the same Baud rate. The desired setting will depend
on the physical layout of the network. Degrees of speed
options—9600, 19200 (Default setting), 38.4K, 57.6K, 115.2K
Modbus
mode
Modbus mode—RTU (Default setting) or ASCII
Data order Little Endian (Default setting)—The low-order byte of the
number is stored in memory at the lowest address and the
high-order byte is stored at the highest address. Example:
4 byte LongInt
Byte3, Byte2, Byte1, Byte0
Big Endian—The high-order byte of the number is stored in
memory at the lowest address and the low-order byte is stored
at the highest address. Example: LongInt can be stored as:
Base Address+0 Byte3
Base Address+1 Byte2
Base Address+2 Byte1
Base Address+3 Byte0
Parity Byte by byte error check on RS232/RS485 communication—
None (Default setting), Even, Odd
Option Description
Stop bits Stop bit options—1 (Default setting) or 2
Diag/Test Network timing—The maximum time for the Modbus card to
respond to a request from the Modbus Master (external
system). Select the following options and use the arrows to
enter the values in seconds or use the default setting:
• Read timeout: Reading registers (Default setting: 1 sec)
• Reg write timeout: Writing registers (Default setting: 3 sec)
• File write timeout: Writing a block of data to a file (Default
setting: 5 sec)
• File prep timeout: After a request from the Modbus Master
to open the file, the system needs preparation time to read
the data from the file or to write the data to the file. (Default
setting: 6 sec)
Modbus stats—Statistics of successful and failed Modbus
requests—Good cnt or Error cnt
Clear stats—Deletes the counted messages
Module information—Software version, bootloader version
and serial number.
Set defaults—Sets all user-configured settings to the factory
default settings.
Sensor information
Refer to the sensor manual for sensor register lists. In addition, sensor
information can be downloaded from http://www.hach.com (or
http://www.hach-lange.com). Search Modbus registers or go to the
controller product page.
Troubleshooting
Sensor data type and data length are important. A warning is shown if
incomplete data types or addresses outside the Modbus profile of the
sensor are requested.
